What is a Tier 1 Solar Panel?

When choosing solar panels it’s important to not only look at the reputability of the company supplying your solar, but also the types of products you are being supplied.
Solar panels are typically described according to three ‘tiers’. Tier 1 solar panels are the ‘best’, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 solar panels are considered to be of lower ‘quality’.

There are several criteria involved in determining what tier a solar panel is classed as. In this day and age there isn’t much difference in terms of energy performance between Tier 1, 2 and 3 solar panels. However, the rating system is still useful for determining which companies may produce better quality products and, importantly, which companies seem more likely to still be in operation if you need to make a warranty claim. Remember, most solar panels come with a 25 year output warranty, but your warranty wont mean much if the company that issued it doesn’t exist anymore! That is why one of the criteria of Tier 1 panels is that the manufacturer has been in business for more then 5 years. As the solar industry is relatively young, 5 years is a long time and many solar businesses in Australia and overseas do not last more than 1 or 2 years. In fact, SGS Electrical is one of the longest running solar companies on the Gold Coast!
So at SGS Electrical, Air Conditioning & Electrical we only recommend Tier 1 panels to our customers.
