What is a Split Air Conditioner?

Wall-mounted split air conditioners are, by far, the most commonly installed air conditioning system in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This is because they are the perfect solution for homeowners that only require air conditioning in a single area of the home.

Inverter, reverse cycle air conditioners and split systems also ensure that with one unit you can stay cool in summer and warm in winter while consuming as little power as possible. Additionally, the installation and running costs for these systems are generally lower because the unit is sized specifically to suit the room it is in.

A split system’s capacity to cool and push air where it is needed can be limited to larger rooms or zones. If you require air conditioning in multiple rooms or have an open-plan room that is too large for a single system, there is a good chance you will need to install multiple units.

Some things to consider before you choose multiple split system air conditioner installations:

  • The look of multiple indoor units on your walls
  • The increased installation cost for multiple split air conditioners
  • The cost to service multiple split air conditioners
  • Multiple outdoor units located around the exterior of your home

Split vs. Ducted Air Conditioning?

Ducted air conditioning systems are becoming a standard inclusion in many new homes. They can cool or heat multiple rooms, the installation is cost-effective and they are energy-efficient to run.

What size of Split Air-Conditioner I need?

When it comes to sizing up an air conditioner, the first step is to measure the length & width of the room you want to cool or heat. Now multiple the length by the width to give you the total square meters of the room (eg 3m x 3m = 9sqm). All we need to do now is multiple the total square meters by 0.16kW to find the required air conditioner size (eg 9 x 0.16 = 1.44kW). This is a good general rule but our experts also take into account other factors, such as Ceiling height, Window coverings, Electrical equipment in the room, Thermal Insulation.
